Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that all his children supported Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
Wike made the revelation during a television interview on Monday while discussing the political factors that influenced the 2023 election.
According to the former Rivers State governor, his children supported Obi, who contested the election on the platform of the Labour Party, largely because of concerns surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.
“In 2023, there was a problem with the Muslim-Muslim ticket. There was this campaign about Christianity. All my children supported Peter Obi,” Wike said.
However, Wike claimed that his children’s view of Obi had since changed.
He said they now believe they did not know enough about the former Anambra State governor when they supported him in 2023.
“But now, they are saying that they never knew this man, Peter Obi, was like this. There are a lot of people who were carried away, but that is no longer there now,” he said.
Wike also argued that the political circumstances surrounding the 2023 election had changed ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
He specifically claimed that President Bola Tinubu had addressed concerns associated with the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
“Tinubu has been able to kill the Muslim-Muslim ticket problem,” Wike said.
Peter Obi has since moved from the Labour Party to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where he is seeking the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
Wike also expressed his view that Obi would not win the 2027 presidential election.
The comments come amid increasing political activity and realignment among Nigeria’s major political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
