Some corps members in Ibadan have expressed their readiness to
participate in the forthcoming general elections as ad hoc staff of the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The corps members gave different reasons for
desiring the job while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in
Ibadan on Friday.

Miss Faith Akinpelumi said
she was willing to participate in the forthcoming elections because the
Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Maj.-Gen.
Suleiman Kazaure had assured corps members of their safety.

NAN reports that the director-general
had at a meeting with corps members in Ibadan on Tuesday, advised them
to be of good behaviour, neutral and abide by the rules guiding the
election processes.

Simbiat Ajose, a corps
members attached to Onireke Local Government, said that participants had
already been selected in her local government but that her name was not
included.

Ajose, however, said that she would still be attending the training classes to have an idea of all the election processes.

Mr Lawal Umar said he wished to participate to make sure everything is in order and to prove his patriotism.

“I am not after the money but to contribute a good quota to the country and be part of those who will make the country great,” he said.

Mr Samson Okolinta,
however, said although he intended boosting his Curriculum Vitae with
the experience, he would be participating mainly because of the
financial benefits attached to the job.

“We all know that our monthly allowance is not enough, so the money will also help a great deal,” he said.

Mr Ibrahim Husseni
said that he would be participating because he had seen corps members
participating in past elections and he would not want to miss this
experience.

“I promise to do my best to make the nation good.”

“If I am, however, not selected among the required corps members, it means I am not meant to be there,” Husseni said.

Mr Adefemi Adebiyi said that being a part of it all would add to his general knowledge and would be a platform to serve the country.

“I believe that maximum security will be provided before and during the elections.”

“Besides, there is no best way to serve my fatherland than being a part of these elections,” he said.
