Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has raised concern over a Facebook post by a group identified as Nigerian Islamic Revolution.
The group reportedly called on Muslim youths to learn how to become pilots, describing it as an easy way to “put tears in the eyes of our enemies.”
Olayinka shared screenshots of the post on Monday, October 5, and alerted the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), drawing attention to what he considered a potentially threatening message.
The post was reportedly published two days before Olayinka’s reaction and came shortly after reports of an incident involving a pilot and co-pilot on a FlyDubai flight with several Israeli passengers on board.
Olayinka’s action has brought renewed attention to the use of social media platforms to circulate messages that could potentially raise security concerns, particularly when such messages appear to reference acts of violence or harm.
The circumstances surrounding the Facebook post and whether any offence was committed had not been established as of the time of reporting.
