Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike, however, said his support for Tinubu does not prevent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from fielding candidates for governorship and legislative elections.
Speaking amid disagreements with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum, Wike said the political coalition he is promoting is focused specifically on supporting Tinubu’s re-election and not on backing APC candidates in all other elections.
He said the Rainbow Coalition is not an APC structure but a platform involving members of different political parties who support Tinubu’s administration and 2027 presidential bid.
The development followed a declaration by the APC Governors’ Forum that its members would not support any alliance capable of weakening the APC or undermining its candidates in the 2027 elections.
Wike maintained that he remains free to support candidates of his choice in other contests, stressing that his political support for Tinubu should not be interpreted as an endorsement of APC candidates across the country.
He also said President Tinubu was aware of the Rainbow Coalition and his political activities.
The disagreement has brought renewed attention to the political alignments taking shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly the relationship between Wike’s coalition and the ruling APC.
