Engineer Shyngle Wigwe, father of the late Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, has debunked reports alleging that he is contesting his son’s inheritance with his grandchildren.

The 90-year-old dismissed the claims during an interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), describing them as baseless and disrespectful.

How can I want to claim Herbert’s properties? Who is the best person to defend Herbert’s properties — the father or a friend? The father at 90 years? My grandchildren are there! Haba! I beg your pardon! How many more days have I got to live? So what will I do with Herbert’s properties?” he said.

He emphasized that he trained Herbert without external help and has no interest in his late son’s wealth.

The bereaved father also disclosed that he suffered a stroke after Herbert’s death, which occurred alongside his wife and eldest son in a fatal helicopter crash in the United States in February 2024.

Wigwe further revealed he had a premonition about his son’s passing and expressed disapproval of the luxurious mansion Herbert built in Ikoyi, Lagos, before his death.

I got to the new house. I was not happy. It is very ostentatious. I didn’t like it one bit. I tried to caution him, but it was too late. He started building that house and I knew nothing about it,” he said.

A video of Engineer Wigwe’s interview has since circulated online.
