Nigerian music star Yemi Alade has opened up about her personal dreams and career journey, giving herself a well-deserved shoutout for her resilience and independence in the entertainment industry.
Speaking during an interview with Chude, the award-winning singer revealed that she dreams of having a private wedding on a secluded island, describing her ideal ceremony as intimate and far from the spotlight.
“This industry is already a lonely place. I’m not about to live my actual life lonely. I dream of having a private wedding on one coded island like that,” she said.
Reflecting on her rise to fame, Yemi Alade noted that she had to carve her own path without relying on the success or mentorship of others.
“I didn’t need the stars ahead of me to hand me a baton. I made my own lane. There’s space for me,” she stated.
She also spoke about breaking away from conventional industry norms, highlighting that she achieved success without following the trend of securing international collaborations.
“I didn’t do the norm. Word on the street says you have to have one Western collaboration like that before you blow, but I didn’t,” she said proudly.
Sharing insights into her early career struggles, the singer revealed that she performed at over 300 free shows just to build her brand and gain experience.
“I performed at over 300 free shows when I was starting out, just to build my name and gain experience,” she recalled.
