President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that Nigerians who do not recognise any positive progress under his administration may be “given eyeglasses” to help improve their perception.

The President made the remark on Thursday, April 16, during an event at the State House in Abuja.

According to him, his administration remains committed to delivering development projects and improving living conditions across the country.

“The truth is I took over from myself. The late Buhari is me, he was a partner. If I took over from him, is that not from myself? If something is wrong, live with it, correct it and then move on,” Tinubu said.

He added that governance is a continuous process requiring patience and collective effort.

“The journey of life is not going to be easy, and so many of you travelling with me, I can only stand by you and say you will not regret it. That is why I asked you to ‘Renew their hope,’” he said.

The President further remarked that critics who fail to acknowledge progress in areas such as infrastructure, education, and the economy may need assistance in “seeing clearly.”

“If they don’t want to see the hope in the roads we build, the children we raise, in the economy we are growing, we will give them eyeglasses,” he added.

The statement has since generated reactions from Nigerians on social media, with supporters describing it as symbolic, while critics argued it reflects insensitivity to current economic challenges.
