A Virgin Atlantic flight carrying about 270 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing in Bengaluru, India, after developing a technical problem shortly after take-off.
The London-bound flight, VS317, departed Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru at about 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 6, but encountered the technical issue shortly after take-off.
The crew subsequently circled the aircraft near Tumakuru for more than 30 minutes before deciding to return to Bengaluru as a safety precaution.
Sources at Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates the airport, confirmed that the aircraft landed safely and that all passengers on board were safe.
The exact nature of the technical problem was not immediately disclosed, while authorities began looking into the cause of the incident.
Virgin Atlantic subsequently cancelled the affected flight as a precaution and began working on alternative arrangements for the passengers.
The incident caused disruption to the passengers’ planned journey to London, but there were no reports of injuries following the aircraft’s safe return to Bengaluru.
The development highlights the precautionary measures taken by flight crews when technical problems are detected shortly after departure, particularly on long-haul international routes.
