Vigilante Member Killed in Fresh Attack on Riyom Community

A vigilante member has been killed in a fresh attack on Wereng-Rim community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The victim, identified as 43-year-old Mangai Musa, was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday night.

A resident of the community, Tok Abel, said the assailants stormed the area at about 10 p.m., opened fire, and fatally shot the vigilante member before fleeing the scene.

According to the resident, the incident triggered panic among community members, forcing many to flee for safety.

The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) also confirmed the attack in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rwang Tengwong.

The association described the killing as another in a series of attacks affecting communities in Riyom Local Government Area, noting that the circumstances surrounding the incident were still under investigation.

According to the statement, Mangai Musa, a native of Wereng-Rim community, was killed on the night of Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

BYM called for urgent action to address the recurring security challenges in the area and protect residents from further attacks.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Command’s spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
