United States Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, have welcomed their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance.

Vance, 41, announced the birth on Sunday, July 19, revealing that the baby was delivered at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

In a joint statement shared on social media, the couple expressed their joy over the newest addition to their family.

“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”

Alec joins the couple’s three older children—Ewan, 9, Vivek, 6, and Mirabel, 4.

According to historical records, Alec is the first child born to a sitting United States vice president in more than 150 years. The last serving vice president to welcome a child while in office was Schuyler Colfax, whose son, Schuyler Colfax III, was born in 1870 during the administration of President Ulysses S. Grant.

JD Vance, an Ohio native, and Usha Vance, the daughter of Indian immigrants, met while studying at Yale Law School, where they both graduated in 2013. The couple married in 2014 and have since built a family of six.
