Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has been celebrated for his outstanding contributions on and off the pitch, winning two major honours at the Nigerian UK Sports Awards (NUKSA).

Troost-Ekong received the Best Performance in a Major International Competition Award for his commanding displays at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where he was named Player of the Tournament. His leadership and resilience were key to Nigeria’s run to the final.

He also clinched the Philanthropy & Humanitarian Award for the work of the Troost-Ekong Foundation, which supports children in underserved Nigerian communities through education, sports development, and access to vital resources.

Beyond football and philanthropy, Troost-Ekong is an early investor in Sokito, a sustainable football boot brand, and is set to launch a podcast, Power and Purpose, on September 25 alongside England rugby star Maro Itoje and broadcaster Leon Mann. The show will spotlight leadership across sport and business.

Expressing gratitude for the honours, the defender said:
“I’m truly humbled to receive these awards. Football has given me so much, and I feel a responsibility to use my platform to give back. This recognition is not just for me, but for everyone working tirelessly to make a difference through the Troost-Ekong Foundation.”

The NUKSA ceremony, which recognises the excellence of Nigerian athletes globally, underlined Troost-Ekong’s blend of sporting achievement, humanitarian service, and forward-looking leadership.
