Troops of the 3 Division and Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), have recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from a bandit hideout in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a statement by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, the operation followed credible intelligence reports indicating that bandits were stockpiling weapons in the area.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops conducted a raid at Rawaya village, near Kazok, in Barkin Ladi. Although the suspected bandit escaped before the troops’ arrival, a thorough search of the hideout led to the recovery of significant arms and ammunition.
Items recovered include two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one revolver pistol, four AK-47 magazines, three G3 magazines, 1,198 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, three mobile phones, and other sundry items.
The recovered weapons are currently in military custody for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and his accomplices.
Major Zhakom reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Enduring Peace to sustain decisive actions against criminal elements and maintain security across the Joint Operations Area.
