Troops Kill Two Suspected Terrorists, Recover Four AK-47 Rifles in Sokoto

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered four AK-47 rifles, eight motorcycles and other military equipment during clearance operations in Sokoto State.

The operations were conducted on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Waria Forest and Sarma Village, where troops reportedly engaged armed groups in separate gun battles.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the task force’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 first encountered terrorists at Waria Forest, where one suspect was neutralised. The soldiers recovered two AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles and other items from the area.

In a subsequent encounter at Sarma Village, troops engaged another group of suspected terrorists, killing one while others reportedly fled, abandoning their equipment.

Further searches led to the recovery of two additional AK-47 rifles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition, six more motorcycles and a communication device, bringing the total number of recovered motorcycles to eight.

The task force said the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and improve security across the North-West region.

It also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security outpost, while commending members of the public for their continued cooperation with security agencies.
