Troops of the 25 Military Intelligence Regiment, in collaboration with hybrid forces, have arrested a 51-year-old man suspected of acting as an informant for Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at the Damboa Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Umar Kaigama, was arrested at about 7:15 p.m. on August 10, 2026, according to a military source who spoke to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that Kaigama allegedly specialised in moving civilians, particularly women, from the IDP camp into the bush to meet suspected terrorists.
The suspect is currently being held at the Headquarters of 25 Brigade for further investigation and necessary action.
The arrest forms part of ongoing intelligence-led operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI aimed at identifying and disrupting networks suspected of facilitating terrorist activities and movements along the Damboa axis.
Further investigations are expected to establish the extent of Kaigama’s alleged activities and determine whether other individuals were involved in the suspected network.
