Troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace, have arrested 19 suspects during a raid on Tongoron Community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State as part of ongoing efforts to apprehend those behind the recent deadly ambush on security personnel.
The operation followed an attack by gunmen on Tuesday, August 4, during which a joint security patrol came under ambush along the Ganawuri–Sabon Gida axis. A police inspector and an Air Force corporal were killed in the attack, while the assailants reportedly fled with their service weapons.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the follow-up operation was carried out at about 1:30 p.m. on August 4, 2026.

During the raid on Tongoron Community, troops arrested 19 suspects for profiling and further investigation.
Sources said those arrested include 14 indigenes of the community and five Fulani residents.

Military authorities said the suspects are currently undergoing screening to determine whether they have any connection to the ambush or other criminal activities in the area.
The operation forms part of ongoing clearance and cordon-and-search missions being conducted by Operation Enduring Peace to identify those responsible for the attack, recover the stolen weapons, and prevent further security incidents in Riyom Local Government Area.
Investigations are ongoing.
