President Bola Tinubu has announced generous rewards for Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

At a reception held on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu, revealed that each player will receive a cash gift of $100,000, a new apartment, and be conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

The recognition comes on the heels of D’Tigress’ resounding 78–64 victory over Mali in the final held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on Sunday. The win secured Nigeria’s fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and seventh overall, further extending their dominance with an impressive 29-game unbeaten streak in the tournament since 2015.

The honours mirror similar gestures made to the Super Falcons last week, following their victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco—where they claimed their 10th title.

The event celebrated not only the team’s on-court success but also their role in promoting national pride and inspiring a new generation of female athletes across the continent.
