TikTok users in parts of Northern Nigeria are reporting difficulties accessing the popular social media platform, fuelling speculation that the Federal Government may have banned TikTok.
But there is currently no official confirmation of a nationwide TikTok ban in Nigeria.
Users in parts of Kaduna, Kano and Sokoto have reportedly experienced problems loading videos, scrolling their feeds and uploading content. Some users have reportedly regained access through VPNs.
Recent reports have documented the disruption but the cause remains unclear. Neither the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) nor the Federal Government has publicly announced a TikTok ban.
The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy also issued a July 2026 directive maintaining the regulatory status quo for internet platforms while government agencies work towards a harmonised regulatory framework. The directive did not announce a TikTok ban.
For now, reports point to regional access disruption rather than a confirmed nationwide government ban.
