Three women have been killed and another person injured after gunmen attacked a mining site in Rakum community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Monday at about 4:30pm when the attackers reportedly stormed the mining site and opened fire on workers before fleeing the area.
The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the attack, saying three women were killed while another person sustained injuries.
A community member, John Silas, also confirmed the incident, saying the attackers opened fire on people at the mining site.
Tengwong and Silas called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks in the community.
The attack comes amid renewed security concerns in parts of Plateau State, particularly Barkin Ladi, Mangu and Bokkos, where several violent incidents have been reported in recent weeks.
As of Monday night, the identities of the victims had not been disclosed, while the Plateau State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
