Three teenage herders have been killed in an attack in the Aloghom area of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims, identified as 18-year-old Garzali Shaibu, 14-year-old Bashiru Yakubu and 15-year-old Salim Abubakar, were reportedly attacked on Saturday, September 12, while tending cattle.
About 50 cattle were also reportedly killed during the incident.
Funeral prayers for the victims were held at the Mangu Central Mosque on Sunday before their remains were buried at the Mangu Cemetery.
The Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, condemned the killings, describing the incident as unprovoked.
MACBAN Secretary in Mangu, Muhammad Salihu, appealed to youths in the community to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
He also called on the government and security agencies to investigate the incident and strengthen the protection of residents and their property.
Security personnel present at the burial equally urged members of the community to remain peaceful, saying investigations into the attack were ongoing.
