The Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, has died.
Williams reportedly died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja, where he was receiving medical attention.
His death was announced on Sunday by his brother, Nkang Williams, who described the development as sudden and expressed shock over the loss. He, however, did not disclose the cause of death.
The news has thrown Williams’ family, political associates and the Cross River State political and administrative community into mourning.
Reacting to the development, Governor Bassey Otu described the commissioner’s death as an “irreparable loss” to the government and people of Cross River State.
Otu said Williams demonstrated dedication, courage and commitment to public service, first as a political leader and later as a member of the State Executive Council.
The governor also highlighted Williams’ role in the power sector, including his leadership of the Forum of Commissioners for Power and Energy in Nigeria, saying his contributions extended beyond Cross River State.
Williams, who hailed from Akparabong in Ikom Local Government Area, was the second commissioner in the Otu administration to die in office, following the death of former Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abubakar Ewa, in January 2025.
