Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has earned two nominations at the 2026 Soul Train Awards.
Tems was nominated for R&B/Soul Song of the Year for her hit single “What You Need.” She also received a nomination in the newly introduced Spotify’s RNB X International Artist category, which recognises artists taking R&B music beyond their home countries.
The Nigerian star is the only artist nominated in both of the new fan-voted categories at this year’s awards. She will compete for R&B/Soul Song of the Year alongside Bruno Mars, Chris Brown and Bryson Tiller, Daniel Caesar, Justin Bieber, Kehlani, Mariah the Scientist and Kali Uchis, Olivia Dean, and South African singer Tyla.
In the Spotify’s RNB X International Artist category, Tems is nominated alongside Cleo Sol, FLO, kwn, Odeal, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Tiana Major9. The category is being introduced this year to spotlight artists bringing fresh perspectives and sounds to R&B across international borders.
For the first time, fans will determine the winners in both categories. Voting is open until October 16, with R&B/Soul Song of the Year voting taking place on BET.com and the international artist category being voted on through Spotify. The 2026 Soul Train Awards will air on November 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET, with a first-ever simulcast on CBS and broadcasts on other Paramount networks.
