Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced a significant reduction in her official convoy and directed government officials to travel together in a single bus during state trips, as part of measures to curb fuel consumption.

The directive was issued on Wednesday, April 8, during a swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed officials. The President explained that only a streamlined core convoy—comprising her security escort, police vehicles, and a backup car—will accompany her on official engagements.

Previously, the presidential motorcade often included more than 30 vehicles, featuring luxury SUVs and police outriders, a setup that frequently disrupted traffic flow.

“From now on, wherever I go, all officials will travel together in one bus… to cut fuel consumption,” she stated.

The move comes in response to mounting fuel shortages linked to tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. In particular, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz—a critical route for global oil shipments—has disrupted supply, prompting several countries to adopt fuel-saving measures.
