Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Nigeria women’s national football team, will go into the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as Africa’s highest-ranked side after retaining their 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

The rankings, released on Thursday by FIFA, show that the reigning WAFCON champions maintained their global position despite recent friendly wins over Senegal earlier this month.

The Super Falcons defeated Senegal 2-1 on June 5 before recording a 3-0 victory in the second fixture, but the results were not enough to improve their overall ranking.

On the continental standings, South Africa’s South Africa women’s national football team remain Nigeria’s closest rivals after climbing one place to 57th globally. Their latest international window included a heavy 5-0 defeat to Japan before they bounced back with a 1-0 win in the return fixture.

Ghana women’s national football team dropped one spot to 60th in the world but remain among Africa’s leading sides as they continue their pursuit of a first WAFCON title.

Hosts Morocco’s Morocco women’s national football team slipped to 64th place globally following a slight dip in form, while Zambia’s Zambia women’s national football team fell one place to 65th despite a 3-0 win over Zimbabwe.

The next FIFA Women’s World Rankings update is scheduled for October 20, 2026.
