The 2026 edition of South South Media Week 2026 has officially commenced in Port Harcourt, bringing together policymakers, business leaders, innovators, and creatives to explore economic opportunities and challenges in the Niger Delta region.
The two-day conference, taking place on May 8 and 9 at The Grace Place on Evo Road in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), is designed as a platform for discussions on innovation, value creation, and economic sustainability.
Now in its seventh edition, the annual gathering has grown into a major regional forum focused on shaping conversations around development and strategic growth in the South-South region.
Organisers said this year’s theme, “Bold & Deeper,” reflects a shift from surface-level engagement toward more practical and transformative approaches to economic advancement.
Speaking ahead of the event, convener Tammy Halliday said the conference aims to critically examine the region’s economic realities while encouraging more strategic thinking among stakeholders.
“Every year, we assess the economy and how people are responding to it. This year, it is clear that we must go beyond the surface. We are going deeper and bolder,” Halliday stated.
He further stressed the need for the Niger Delta to move beyond its traditional role as merely a resource-producing region.
“We cannot continue producing resources while others reap the full value. This is about changing that narrative and building an ecosystem that creates and sustains value,” he added.
The organisers disclosed that the programme will feature keynote speeches, panel sessions, and initiatives aimed at supporting emerging talents through grants and recognition for individuals contributing to regional growth and innovation.
The 2026 edition is being supported by several organisations, including Spotify, Cribz, Hop Services, The Reach, Buzz Africa PR, and AI Advantage Hub.
Participants from different sectors across and beyond the Niger Delta are expected to take part in the activities as the conference unfolds through the weekend.
