Six family members of suspected Boko Haram insurgents have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State after reportedly escaping from a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains.
According to military sources, the surrender took place in two separate incidents on July 24, 2026, with all six individuals voluntarily presenting themselves to troops of C Company, 192 Battalion (Mechanised) deployed in Gwoza.
The first group, comprising Samaila Vuringwa (55), Falmata Samaila (13), and Walida Samaila (10), surrendered at about 7:45 a.m.
Preliminary investigations indicated that they escaped from the Wa’a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains before making their way to the military base.
Items recovered from the group included primary and secondary school certificates as well as ₦460,000 in cash.
Later the same day, at about 1:35 p.m., a second group also surrendered to the troops.
The group consisted of Amina Nahadiye (64), Zainabu Zaza (62), and Amina Mugula (61).
Military authorities said preliminary screening showed that they also escaped from the Wa’a enclave in the Mandara Mountains.
Items recovered from the second group included two torchlights and ₦252,000 in cash.
The military disclosed that all six individuals have undergone preliminary profiling, documentation and security screening and are currently in the custody of the 192 Battalion for further investigation and processing in line with established operational procedures.
According to the military, the latest surrender reflects the sustained pressure being mounted by troops of Operation HADIN KAI against terrorist strongholds in the Mandara Mountains, forcing more insurgents and their family members to flee the enclaves.
The military further stated that operations across the North-East theatre remain generally calm but unpredictable, adding that troops continue to carry out aggressive clearance operations while maintaining dominance over key operational areas.
