FIFA has announced that Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy will headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, performing the tournament’s official anthem at Estadio Azteca on June 11.
The duo will perform ahead of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, delivering the anthem titled Dai Dai, an Italian phrase meaning “let’s go” or “come on.” FIFA described the song as a global celebration of football’s unifying power, noting that both artists represent influential voices in contemporary music across continents.
Joining them on stage will be Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and South African singer Tyla, who are also billed for the Mexico City ceremony.
Opening festivities will extend across the tournament’s other host nations. In Canada, performances are expected from Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette ahead of Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on June 12.
In the United States, Katy Perry and rapper Future will headline the ceremony before the U.S. team faces Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Shakira’s participation adds to her long-standing association with the World Cup, following her globally celebrated anthems such as Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) and La La La. She is also reportedly set to co-headline a Super Bowl-style halftime show at the World Cup final on July 19, alongside Madonna and K-pop group BTS.
