Concerns have continued to mount over the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Primary Election in Plateau North, with stakeholders describing the process as a setback for internal party democracy.
In a statement issued by the Director General of the I. D. Gyang Campaign Council, Comrade Lot Adas, the camp alleged that party members were denied a fair and transparent opportunity to choose their preferred candidate.
The statement stressed that the credibility of any democracy rests on internal party democracy, fairness, due process, and respect for the will of the people.
While acknowledging that political leadership and influence are part of party politics, the group warned that imposing candidates against the wishes of members undermines confidence in democratic institutions and risks alienating loyal party stakeholders.
It further alleged that the senatorial primary election in Plateau North was not properly conducted, claiming that results were “concocted and allocated” to produce a predetermined outcome.
According to the statement, the strength of the APC lies in its grassroots members, whose voices and votes, it said, must not be replaced by predetermined arrangements.
The group also referenced comments from the APC national leadership, noting that the National Working Committee (NWC) is currently reviewing reports from the Appeal Committee on the conduct of the National Assembly primaries.
It expressed hope that the party leadership would take appropriate steps after completing its review.
In view of this, the campaign council urged supporters and party faithful to remain calm, vigilant, and peaceful, while awaiting what it described as justice from the APC National Working Committee.
The statement reaffirmed that its position is rooted in the defence of justice, equity, and the democratic rights of APC members and the people of Plateau North.
Signed:
Comrade Lot Adas
Director General, I. D. Gyang Campaign Council
