Senate Salutes Nigeria At 57

The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,  on Thursday 28 September,2017, felicitated with Nigerians on the celebration of the 57 years of independence saying the nation has greater testimonies to be grateful to God.

In a motion sought and granted to the Deputy President of the Senate,
Senator Ike Ekweremadu,  on this year Independence Anniversary, he
congratulated Nigeria and Nigerians for yet another year to celebrate
the nation.

Ekweremadu noted that as a nation, lots have been done in improving
the living standard of the citizenry and also pointed out parts of
achievements attained so far in the areas of education,  health,
agriculture and other sectors of development.

“I can recollect at Independence,  we have only one University,  but
as at present,  Nigeria has over 200 Universities across the country.
Same goes to every other sector of economy,” Ekweremadu noted.

He called on every Nigerians to join the government of the day in
actualizing its campaign promises. adding,  the future of the country
is bright, “we only need to live harmoniously among all ethnicities”.

Responding in separate remarks, Senators unanimously commended the
oneness and unity of Nigeria in the journey so far,  but charged her
present administration to live up to the yearnings of the masses in
sustaining and providing basic amenities to improve on the life and
welfare of the people.

On his part, the President of the Senate,  Dr.  Abubakar Bukola
Saraki, joined in celebrating the nation at 57, saying the celebration
call for sober reflection, to ponder on ways to move the nation
forward and live as one.

Saraki said the task of greater Nigeria, is a collective
responsibility of every citizen just as he admonished electorate to
believe in the project Nigeria, pray for peace and progress of the
nation.
