Fifteen passengers have been burnt to death after an 18-seater bus was involved in a fatal road crash along the Enagi-Costain Duma Road in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The accident occurred on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at a sharp bend around Costain Duma, where the bus reportedly caught fire shortly after the crash, trapping the passengers inside.
An eyewitness, Ahmed Ndagana, who confirmed the incident, said the vehicle was engulfed in flames, leaving the occupants with little opportunity to escape.
According to him, about 15 passengers were burnt to death in the vehicle, while details surrounding the circumstances of the crash were still being established.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the death toll, although the identities of the victims and the exact cause of the accident were not immediately disclosed.
Ndagana urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to exercise greater caution when navigating sharp bends, especially during the rainy season when slippery roads and poor visibility can increase the risk of accidents.
He also commended the FRSC and local volunteers for their prompt intervention following the crash.
The remains of the 15 victims were later reportedly given a mass burial in the area.
