Media personality and Arise TV host Rufai Oseni has resurfaced an old video of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, in which he pledged not to engage in godfatherism in Nigerian politics.
The video, recorded during Wike’s tenure as Governor of Rivers State, has been widely circulated on social media. In the footage, Wike is heard saying:
“The day I leave as Governor of Rivers State, in the name of Almighty God, I have no power to choose a successor because the people have the right to decide who leads them.”
Currently, Minister Wike is touring all 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State as part of efforts to reclaim the political structure from Governor Siminalayi Fubara. During one of his recent public engagements, Wike warned that he could become politically irrelevant if the governor is re-elected, vowing that the perceived mistakes of the 2023 election would not be repeated.
The resurfaced video has reignited discussions about political succession, godfatherism, and Wike’s role in shaping Rivers State’s political landscape.
