Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the two major targets he hopes to accomplish before bringing his illustrious football career to an end.
The Portugal captain said he wants to reach 1,000 career goals and win another UEFA Nations League title with Portugal.
Ronaldo disclosed this while speaking to journalists ahead of Portugal’s Nations League campaign under new head coach Jorge Jesus.
“The missions now are two: winning the Nations League and reaching 1,000 career goals,” Ronaldo said.
The 41-year-old has previously acknowledged that he is approaching the final stage of his playing career and said it is possible that the current season could be his last.
However, he said he remains focused on contributing to Portugal and helping the team succeed.
Ronaldo also revealed that he considered retiring from international football after Portugal’s 2026 World Cup campaign but decided to continue after discussions with the Portuguese Football Federation president and Jorge Jesus.
He said he still believes he can contribute to the national team both through his goals and his experience.
Ronaldo is now closing in on the 1,000-goal milestone, with reports putting him at 979 career goals, leaving him 21 short of the landmark. He has also expressed a desire to score the historic 1,000th goal while representing Portugal.
Portugal, meanwhile, are beginning a new era under Jorge Jesus as they defend their Nations League title, with Ronaldo remaining part of the squad.
