Hollywood actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner has won a posthumous Emmy Award for his performance in the hit comedy series The Bear, nine months after his death.
Reiner was honoured with the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award for his role as Albert Schnurr in the fourth season of the FX series.
The award was presented during the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 6, where his win received a standing ovation from the audience.
Reiner appeared in three episodes of The Bear, portraying Albert, a restaurant consultant who mentors Ebraheim, played by Edwin Lee Gibson.
His Emmy win marks his third career Emmy and his first acting Emmy since 1978, when he won for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in All in the Family. He had previously won two Emmys for the role in 1974 and 1978.
Reiner died in December 2025 at the age of 78 alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. His death shocked Hollywood and brought an abrupt end to a career spanning decades as an actor, director, writer and producer.
His posthumous Emmy also made history, as he became the first actor to receive a posthumous acting Emmy since Raúl Juliá in 1995. The award also extended the gap between Reiner’s acting Emmy wins to 48 years, setting a new record.
Reiner was widely known for his work both in front of and behind the camera, directing acclaimed films including When Harry Met Sally…, A Few Good Men and The Princess Bride, among others.
The Television Academy’s official records now list Reiner as the winner of the 2026 Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award for The Bear.
His victory comes as The Bear continues its strong run at the Emmys, with the series receiving multiple nominations in the 2026 awards cycle.
