The Rivers State House of Assembly has outlined the reasons behind the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.
The Assembly’s Majority Leader, Major Jack, said the move was prompted by alleged repeated violations of a peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the political crisis in the state.
Jack made the claim on Thursday during plenary while presenting a report on alleged acts of misconduct against the governor.
According to him, Governor Fubara and his deputy consistently disregarded resolutions reached during reconciliation efforts aimed at restoring stability and harmony in Rivers State.
He further accused the two officials of running the affairs of government without due regard for transparency, accountability, and good governance.
“The governor and his deputy have continued to act in ways that undermine democratic principles and accountability,” Jack told the House.
He added that peace agreements facilitated by President Tinubu were allegedly breached on multiple occasions, including understandings reached during reconciliation meetings held in December 2023 and again in 2025.
Jack maintained that the failure of the governor and his deputy to honour the terms of the peace accords informed the Assembly’s decision to commence the impeachment process.
