In a significant development for the residents of Jos and its environs, the railway tracks in the state capital are currently undergoing maintenance following the recent revival of railway transport. This initiative aims to reintroduce railway operations in Plateau State, providing an alternative to road transport in response to the challenges posed by the removal of fuel subsidies.
The Plateau State Executive Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has taken proactive measures to address the high cost of road transportation caused by the removal of fuel subsidies. Governor Mutfwang recognizes the importance of revitalizing the state’s abandoned railway service to offer residents a more affordable means of transportation.
In a strategic move, Governor Mutfwang has entered into a partnership with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to facilitate low-cost transport services within both rural and urban areas of the state. The collaboration seeks to ease the financial burden on residents and provide a viable transportation alternative.
The ongoing maintenance efforts are focused on repairing and refurbishing railway tracks that have suffered significant damage and vandalism over the years. Additionally, tracks that were previously coated in mud have undergone reopening procedures to ensure the smooth operation of the railway service.
This revival marks a promising step towards enhancing the transportation infrastructure in Plateau State, aligning with the state government’s commitment to providing cost-effective and efficient transport solutions for its residents.
As the maintenance progresses, anticipation builds among the community for the eventual restart of railway operations, heralding a new era of accessible and affordable transportation for the people of Plateau State.
