A fuel tanker conveying petroleum motor spirit (PMS) has overturned at the Tincan Liverpool Bridge in Apapa, Lagos, causing a scene of concern on Monday morning.
A video shared by Channels Television showed members of the public scooping fuel from the fallen tanker beneath the bridge, despite the obvious risks involved.
“Happening now at Tincan Liverpool Bridge, Apapa: A tanker overturned, with people scooping its contents from underneath the bridge,” Channels TV reported.
Tanker accidents and explosions have remained a recurring tragedy in Nigeria, with authorities repeatedly warning against the dangerous practice of collecting spilled fuel, which often leads to loss of lives and property.
