A member of the House of Representatives, James Faleke, has obtained the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, signalling the formal start of preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
Faleke, who represents Ikeja Federal Constituency, collected the forms on Tuesday in Abuja after paying the N100 million fee required by the party. The lawmaker, also known as the founder of the Tinubu Support Groups, said the move marks the official commencement of the President’s re-election bid.
Presenting the forms, the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, described the process as open and in line with party guidelines.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has released the timetable for the 2027 general elections. According to the commission, elections into State Houses of Assembly and governorship positions are scheduled for Saturday, January 16, 2027, while another round of governorship and state assembly elections will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2027.
INEC further stated that party primaries will be conducted between April 23 and May 30, 2026, including the resolution of related disputes.
Campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections are expected to commence on August 19, 2026, while campaigns for governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will begin on September 9, 2026.
The latest development underscores early political realignments as parties begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
