Remi Tinubu Says She Hopes to Leave Aso Rock in 2031 to Enjoy a Better Nigeria

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed hope that she will leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 to enjoy a better Nigeria as a woman in her seventies.

She made the remarks on Friday, October 23, 2026, during the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots organisation mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady said she looked forward to living in a country where improvements in infrastructure and public services would make everyday life more convenient, particularly when travelling.

“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu cited developments at Nigerian airports as evidence of progress, expressing optimism that improvements would make travelling faster and more convenient for citizens.

She also responded to Nigerians who say they have yet to see meaningful progress under her husband’s administration, suggesting humorously that they might need what she called “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses” to recognise the changes taking place.

“So things are happening in Nigeria, except, you know, those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some, you know, Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, JigiBola,” she said.

Following her address, the First Lady formally inaugurated the movement’s Abuja headquarters and expressed support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The event forms part of grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, as supporters of the president seek to build backing for a second term.

Mrs Tinubu’s remarks have drawn attention to the administration’s expectations for the country’s future, particularly its stated ambition to improve infrastructure and the quality of life of Nigerians.
