Reactions have continued to trail the Super Eagles’ painful exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following their 4–2 penalty shootout defeat to hosts Morocco in Rabat.
Popular Nigerian singer, Teni the Entertainer, joined the conversation with a humorous reaction that quickly went viral on social media. In a video shared online, the singer was seen receiving treatment with a drip attached, jokingly claiming that the heartbreak from Nigeria’s loss affected her health.
According to Teni, the emotional impact of the defeat was so intense that her body began “acting up.” In her trademark comic style, she jokingly blamed Ghanaians for the loss, calling out Ghanaian music stars Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, as well as Ghana as a whole. Her video sparked laughter among fans, with many Nigerians relating to the emotional toll football losses often bring.
Meanwhile, former Big Brother Naija housemate Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, took a more critical stance, directing her anger at the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Tacha described the NFF as a “very unserious organisation,” faulting its handling of the match, particularly the officiating. She condemned the decision to allow two referees from rival countries, Ghana and South Africa, to officiate the encounter.
According to her, the NFF should have petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) immediately after the referees were announced, noting that even a rejected petition would have put pressure on the officials to act professionally.
Tacha further described the match as one of the worst-officiated games in football history, alleging that the referee disrupted the flow of play with questionable calls that left even Moroccan players confused.
She stressed that the incident went beyond home advantage, calling the officiating “shambolic” and urging the NFF to formally petition CAF, demand a review, and question the competence of the referee, warning that such performances damage the credibility of African football.
The Super Eagles’ elimination has continued to dominate discussions online, with Nigerians expressing disappointment, frustration, and humour in equal measure.
