Speculation surrounding Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen intensified during the final days of the 2026 summer transfer window, with Arsenal emerging as one of the clubs linked with a move for the Galatasaray forward.
Arsenal had reportedly held discussions with Galatasaray over Osimhen’s availability as the Premier League champions explored options to strengthen their attack. The Nigerian striker’s name reportedly came up during wider talks between the two clubs involving Arsenal players Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray permanently from Napoli in July 2025 for a reported €75 million, had been heavily linked with a move away from Turkey despite signing a long-term contract with the Turkish champions.
Arsenal’s interest was strengthened by the club’s difficulties in pursuing other attacking targets. Reports indicated that the Gunners viewed Osimhen as an attractive option, but any potential deal faced significant financial hurdles, particularly his salary package.
Galatasaray were also reluctant to part with their star striker. The Turkish club had reportedly rejected a huge offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal earlier in the window, reinforcing its position that Osimhen was not readily available for transfer.
Another obstacle was Osimhen’s wages. Reports indicated that Arsenal were unwilling to match his current earnings in Istanbul, meaning the Nigerian would have had to accept a reduced financial package for a move to London to materialise.
Osimhen himself had remained cautious about the speculation. After scoring twice for Galatasaray against Corum FK in August, he said he was focused on his work and would consider his future later.
Despite the late interest, however, no deal was completed before the Premier League transfer deadline on September 1.
Osimhen therefore remained a Galatasaray player as the European summer transfer window closed, bringing an end to another transfer saga involving the Nigeria international.
