PSIRS Embraces Global Best Practices to Boost 2025 Tax Collection

The Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS) has successfully concluded its first Strategic Retreat of 2025, a three-day event aimed at improving revenue collection efficiency and boosting internally generated revenue (IGR) for the state.

The retreat brought together key stakeholders to discuss challenges, share insights, and strategize on best practices for enhancing tax administration. It provided a platform for officials to explore global standards in revenue generation and financial management.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, PSIRS Executive Chairman, Dr. Jim Pam Wayas, described the retreat as a transformative experience, equipping both management and technical teams with innovative strategies to strengthen the state’s revenue base. He expressed confidence that the knowledge gained would significantly impact the Service’s operations in the coming year.

Dr. Wayas also reviewed the Service’s 2024 revenue performance, revealing that N31.42 billion was generated out of the N38.8 billion target. While acknowledging this achievement, he assured stakeholders that the insights from the retreat, coupled with a renewed commitment, would propel the Service to surpass its 2025 revenue goal.

The Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Arch. Samuel N. Jatau, emphasized the importance of effective tax collection in driving the state’s development. He urged revenue officials to work collaboratively, fostering a united approach toward achieving financial sustainability.

Similarly, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Philemon Daffi, commended the PSIRS for its efforts and challenged participants to take the lead in ensuring Plateau State’s economic sustainability. He described the Service as the “brain box” of the state’s development, highlighting the crucial role of revenue generation in governance.

The retreat concluded with a strengthened commitment to enhancing tax collection processes, adopting innovative financial strategies, and fostering greater collaboration with stakeholders. Participants pledged to uphold transparency, accountability, and professionalism, ensuring Plateau State remains on the path to sustainable economic growth.
