The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would lose the 2027 presidential election if the poll is conducted in a genuinely free, fair and transparent manner.
The party’s leader, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, made the assertion while discussing the prospects of the 2027 election, arguing that the outcome could be significantly different if Nigerians are given a truly open electoral process.
According to Baba-Ahmed, the election could effectively be decided within hours if voting and collation are conducted transparently.
He also described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a “monster” that is destroying itself from within.
Baba-Ahmed pointed to the APC’s control of the federal government, the National Assembly and a large number of state governments, arguing that President Tinubu currently enjoys significant political influence.
He noted that the President has the backing of 31 state governors and controls roughly 75 per cent of the National Assembly.
Despite this political strength, Baba-Ahmed said the President’s apparent concerns about the 2027 election suggested that there was still considerable uncertainty surrounding the political landscape.
The PRP leader cited the 2026 Osun State governorship election as an example of how the ruling party could be defeated at the polls, arguing that the opposition Accord Party was able to win without relying on special alliances or extraordinary political manoeuvres.
He suggested that a similar outcome could occur at the national level if the 2027 presidential election is conducted transparently.
Baba-Ahmed also cautioned against prematurely praising the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying the electoral body should only be judged on its ability to conduct a credible election when an incumbent president is actively contesting.
He expressed hope that the 2027 presidential election would be free, fair and credible, warning that any failure to deliver a transparent process could have serious consequences for Nigeria’s democracy.
