Scores of concerned citizens, mostly youths, took to the streets of Jos on Sunday to demand justice for Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as Ibee, a graduate of the University of Jos who was allegedly tortured to death after being accused of stealing an iPhone 12.
Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the protesters who came out in their numbers for a candle light procession condemned what they described as an act of jungle justice and called on security agencies to ensure that everyone involved in the alleged killing is identified, arrested and prosecuted.
The demonstrators described Mbaya’s death as a tragic reminder of the dangers of mob violence, stressing that no individual should be subjected to torture or killed based on mere allegations without due process.
They urged law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that justice is served for the deceased and his family.
The protesters also called for stronger measures to discourage mob action and promote respect for the rule of law, emphasizing that allegations of criminal conduct should be handled through the appropriate legal channels rather than through extrajudicial violence.
The peaceful demonstration drew attention from residents and motorists as participants reiterated their demand for accountability and an end to jungle justice across Nigeria.
