The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered and sealed an illegal factory in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area, where counterfeit soft drinks branded as “Iyi Obeleagu Ogbanje Juice” were being produced.
The factory was raided on September 3, 2025, by operatives of the command’s Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu. During the operation, one suspect, 48-year-old Chigozie Okafor, was arrested, and several cartons of the fake drinks were recovered.
In a statement on Sunday, September 7, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the drinks were being manufactured without approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). He described the products as “highly harmful to the health of both adults and children.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a full-scale investigation to identify and apprehend others involved in the illicit trade. He further warned individuals engaging in such criminal activities to desist immediately, stressing that the command remains committed to safeguarding public health.
