Police Pay ₦25.9m to Families of 25 Fallen Officers in Jigawa

The Nigeria Police Force has disbursed more than ₦25.9 million to the families of 25 police officers from Jigawa State who died while in active service.

The payment was made under the Force’s Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme, which provides financial support to the dependants of officers who die in the line of duty.

The cheques were presented to the beneficiaries in Jigawa as part of efforts by the Police Force to provide relief to families left behind by officers who lost their lives while serving the country.

The initiative is also aimed at easing the financial burden on the affected families and recognising the sacrifices made by police personnel in the course of their duties.

The Jigawa disbursement follows a larger nationwide payment earlier in September, when the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, presented cheques totalling ₦2.317 billion to nearly 3,000 beneficiaries and relatives of deceased police officers.

According to the report, the nationwide payment covered insurance claims for multiple years, from 2017 to 2025, including outstanding sums recovered from insurance companies following earlier partial settlements.

The Police Force has described the payments as part of its institutional responsibility to support the families of officers who lost their lives in the service of the nation.

The assistance is expected to help the beneficiaries meet the needs of their families and dependants while providing some financial relief following the loss of their loved ones.

The development also highlights the risks faced by police personnel in the course of their duties and the importance of sustained welfare support for the families of fallen officers.
