The Gombe State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 200-level student of the Federal University of Kashere (FUK), whose body was recovered from a stagnant water body in Akko Local Government Area of the state.
The deceased was identified as Enoch Sunday Maisamari, a 28-year-old student of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science.
According to reports, Maisamari had been declared missing after he was last seen on Sunday during a graduation celebration organised by final-year students of the university.
A source said the student’s body was discovered in Sabon Garin Yero Village, near Kashere town, and was recovered by the police. The university authorities were subsequently contacted, after which one of the deceased’s coursemates identified the body.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the command received a report at about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday regarding the recovery of the student’s body from a stagnant water body in Sabon Garin Yero Village, Akko Local Government Area.
He said the body was evacuated to the General Hospital, Kashere, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.
According to the police, no visible signs of violence were found on the body during the preliminary examination.
Abdullahi added that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
The deceased was said to be a native of Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.
