Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong says Peace, security and Good Governance remain cardinal objectives of his administration.
Governor Lalong in a message commemorating this year’s International Day of Peace,a day set aside by the United Nations General Assembly to celebrate the “Rights of every human to live in Peace” said it is in furtherance of such objective that his administration places high premium on peaceful coexistence, fairness, equity and justice. The Governor in a message issued and signed by state Commissioner of information and Communication Yakubu Dati said people must put behind the ghost of the ugly past and resolve to chart a new course by ending violence, ethnicity and religious biases.
He stressed the Rescue Administration will continue to work together with all lovers of Peace to resolve long standing issues of conflict through deliberate policy interventions among other initiatives.
Governor Lalong said his administration has reviewed the state’s security architecture as a result of the recently held Peace and Security Conference in July this year organized by the Plateau state Peace Building Agency.
He assured his administration will implement the recommendations of the conference and the government white paper on the “Fulani – Berom Peace Committee Report”.
The statement explain the recent creation of more chiefdoms in the state is part of attempts to resolve lingering conflicts associated with chieftaincy on the one hand. This he said is in addition to giving more credence to the state’s security architecture at the grass roots.
Governor Lalong describe the passage of the criminal justice bill by the Plateau state House of Assembly as a partnership that will fast track the dispensation of justice and trial of suspects arrested in the state against the former practice of trying them elsewhere.
Yakubu Dati conveyed Governor Lalong’s determination to relocate displaced persons to their places of original abode noting that a committee assigned the responsibility is on top of its assignment.
The Governor therefore wants citizens to reflect on the theme of the International Day of Peace by shunning rumours, hate speech and further commit themselves to the pursuit of Peace in all activities and facets of life.
