The race for qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil is gathering momentum, with 18 of the 32 available places already filled.
Cameroon became the latest nation to book its place at next year’s tournament after defeating Nigeria’s Super Falcons 1–0 in the quarter-final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, sending the Indomitable Lionesses into the WAFCON semi-finals and securing their World Cup qualification.
The result ended Nigeria’s hopes of securing an automatic qualification ticket through the tournament and brought their defence of the WAFCON title to an end.
The Super Falcons will now face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in a crucial play-off, with both teams seeking another route to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The 2027 tournament will feature 32 nations and will be hosted by Brazil.
