Plateau Youth Council Declares Mourning Over Eight UNIJOS Students Lost in Auto Crash

The Plateau State Youth Council (PYC) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic auto crash that claimed the lives of eight University of Jos students in the early hours of Thursday, December 11, 2025, as they returned from a student engagement.

The accident, which also left two others critically injured, has cast a heavy cloud of grief over Plateau State and the country at large. The victims were young, vibrant, and ambitious individuals committed to pursuing their dreams. Among them were notable student union leaders, including the President of the National Association of Plateau State Students (NAPSS), Datong Mangnus Miapkop, and the Social Science Students’ Association (SOSSA) leader, Naanpar Angelo Israel.

“These students were the hope of their families, their communities, and the future of our dear Plateau State,” the Council said.

The PYC extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, friends, classmates, the National Association of Plateau State Students (NAPSS), the Social Science Students’ Association (SOSSA), and the entire University of Jos community. It described the loss as immeasurable and deeply painful.

“In this moment of mourning, we pray that God grants the bereaved families the strength and comfort they need to endure this irreparable loss,” the statement added. The Council also assured the families of its unwavering support.

The PYC prayed for the souls of the departed to find eternal rest and for the swift recovery of those injured.

In honour of the deceased student leaders and other comrades, the Council announced the suspension of all scheduled activities for the week.
