Plateau: Troops Neutralize Suspected Terrorist, Recover Two AK-47 Rifles in Wase

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have neutralized a suspected terrorist element and recovered two AK-47 rifles and other military-related items during an intelligence-led operation in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The operation was conducted on Saturday, August 29, 2026, by troops of Sector 2 deployed at Zak Village in Wase LGA, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities and deny terrorists freedom of movement within the Joint Operations Area.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the troops were conducting stop-and-search operations around 9:50 a.m. when they intercepted a green-coloured Golf vehicle with registration number DKA-808XM.

The troops reportedly discovered a concealed and well-fabricated compartment inside the vehicle’s dashboard during the search.

The driver allegedly refused to open the compartment and fled into a nearby bush, prompting the troops to pursue and apprehend him.

The statement said the suspect subsequently attempted to disarm one of the soldiers but was swiftly neutralized.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one magazine, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, a mobile phone and an ATM card.

The Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Maxwell Dangana, commended the troops for maintaining what he described as a decisive and aggressive posture in ongoing operations against criminal elements.

Dangana urged the troops to sustain the momentum and remain resolute in offensive operations across the Joint Operations Area.

He also thanked residents for their continued support and appealed for greater cooperation through the provision of timely and actionable intelligence to security forces.

According to the commander, such collaboration would enable troops to effectively carry out their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
