At least, 80 indigenes of Ogun State schooling at the University of Jos were said to have been rescued by the State Government following the killings in Plateau State.

Recall that the management of the university had recently shut the academic institution as a result of security challenges facing the State.

It was learnt that four students of UNIJOS had been killed in the incident.

The Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Students’ Matters, Azeez Adeyemi confirmed to newsmen in Abeokuta that the governor had ordered the evacuation of Ogun students in jos.

Speaking on Sunday, Adeyemi revealed that five buses were provided with security escorts to ensure the said students were safely returned home.

It was said that the evacuation was carried out in collaboration with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) as well as security agencies.

“Governor Abiodun has ordered the immediate evacuation of all the indigenes of the State studying in the university of Jos following the crisis that erupted as a result of the killings of four students of the university,” he said.

The Special Assistant ensured that no Ogun indigene would be abandoned regardless of where they belong in politics or religion.

He maintained that it is the duty of the State to ensure the safety of the stranded students.

In a similar move, the Kwara State Government earlier moved to rescue its students in University of Jos, Plateau State.

The Special Adviser on Labour to the state governor, Comrade Abdulkareem Mumini Onagun, disclosed this in a response to a distress message to the state government by one Usman Maimuna, an indigene of the state studying in the institution.

Onagun said ” We have gotten in touch with the relevant government agency and immediate responses and actions are being initiated, hopefully anytime from today Sunday.”

The student, Maimuna, studying Quantity Surveying in the University of Jos, had cried out that the ongoing crisis in Plateau had made life unsafe and the university authorities had asked students to vacate the campus.

He said the crisis had already claimed lives of some students, just as some state governments have been sending buses and security personnel to rescue their students out of the university.

Maimuna claimed that efforts to reach the Kwara State Government did not yield positive results.

However, the governor’s aide assured that efforts were ongoing to rescue the students.
